[58] Bhikkhus, when an act of demotion (niyassakamma) possesses another three factors, it is a legitimate act (dhammakamma), an act in accordance with the discipline (vinayakamma), and one well settled: it is done on account of an offense (āpatti); it is done on account of an offense entailing confession (desanāgāminī āpatti); it is done on account of an offense that has not been confessed.
Bhikkhus, when an act of demotion possesses these three factors, it is a legitimate act, an act in accordance with the discipline, and one well settled.
