[580] Bhikkhus, again, here a bhikkhu commits several saṅghādisesa offenses — limited in number and unlimited in number, of one name and of different names, of the same class and of a different class, kept distinct and mixed together. He requests the Saṅgha for a combined probation (samodhānaparivāsa) for those offenses. The Saṅgha gives him a combined probation for those offenses. While observing probation, he commits in the interval several saṅghādisesa offenses — unlimited in number, unconcealed … unlimited in number, concealed … unlimited in number, some concealed and some unconcealed. He requests the Saṅgha for a sending back to the beginning (mūlāya paṭikassanā) on account of the intervening offenses. The Saṅgha sends him back to the beginning on account of the intervening offenses by an act not in accordance with the Dhamma, reversible, unfit to stand, and gives the combined probation not in accordance with the Dhamma. He, thinking "I am observing probation," … [the Saṅgha] gives the combined probation in accordance with the Dhamma, gives penance (mānatta) in accordance with the Dhamma, and rehabilitates him (abbheti) in accordance with the Dhamma. Bhikkhus, that bhikkhu is purified from those offenses.
