[581] Bhikkhus, here again a bhikkhu commits several saṅghādisesa offences (saṅghādisesā āpattiyo), some measurable, some immeasurable, … some distinct, some mixed together. He requests the Saṅgha for a combined probation (samodhānaparivāsa) for those offences. The Saṅgha gives him a combined probation for those offences. While undergoing probation, he commits in the interim several saṅghādisesa offences, some measurable, some immeasurable, unconcealed. He requests the Saṅgha for a sending back to the beginning (mūlāya paṭikassana) on account of the interim offences. The Saṅgha sends him back to the beginning on account of the interim offences by a formal act (kamma) that is not in accordance with the Dhamma, that is reversible, and unfit to stand, and it gives the combined probation not in accordance with the Dhamma. He, thinking, "I am undergoing probation," … [the Saṅgha] gives the combined probation in accordance with the Dhamma, gives penance (mānatta) in accordance with the Dhamma, and rehabilitates (abbheti) him in accordance with the Dhamma. Bhikkhus, that bhikkhu is purified from those offences.
