[56] Bhikkhus, in this regard, as for those ascetics and brahmins who are theorists about the past (pubbantakappikā), who hold views about the past, and who, concerning the past, assert various propositions of conviction (adhimuttipadāni) on eighteen grounds — that too is merely the feeling (vedayita) of those worthy ascetics and brahmins who do not know and do not see; it is merely the agitation and vacillation of those in the grip of craving (taṇhā).
