[366] When the formal act (kamma) is legitimate (dhammakamma), and he perceives it as a legitimate act, in speaking evasively (aññavādaka), in causing vexation (vihesaka), there is an offense of pācittiya. When the act is legitimate, and he is in doubt, in speaking evasively, in causing vexation, there is an offense of pācittiya. When the act is legitimate, and he perceives it as an illegitimate act, in speaking evasively, in causing vexation, there is an offense of pācittiya.
When the act is illegitimate (adhammakamma), and he perceives it as a legitimate act, there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). When the act is illegitimate, and he is in doubt, there is an offense of wrong-doing. When the act is illegitimate, and he perceives it as an illegitimate act, there is an offense of wrong-doing.
