[1062] And how does there come to be [the notion] "By this I am not lasting" (iminā sātasmi)? Having separated out some phenomenon (dhamma) — form (rūpa), feeling (vedanā), perception (saññā), volitional formations (saṅkhārā), or consciousness (viññāṇa) — [one thinks]: "By this I shall be annihilated, I shall perish, I shall not be." Thus there comes to be [the notion] "By this I am not lasting."
