[26] [Sakavādin:] Is form (rūpa) apprehended in the real and ultimate sense (sacchikaṭṭha-paramaṭṭha), and is feeling (vedanā) apprehended in the real and ultimate sense — form being one thing, feeling another? [Paravādin:] Yes. [Sakavādin:] Is the person (puggala) apprehended in the real and ultimate sense, and is form apprehended in the real and ultimate sense? [Paravādin:] Yes. [Sakavādin:] Is form one thing, the person another? [Paravādin:] It should not be said thus. [Sakavādin:] Acknowledge the refutation (niggaha): If form is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense and feeling is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense, form being one thing, feeling another, and if the person is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense and form is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense, then indeed, sir, it should be said that form is one thing, the person another. What you assert there — that it should indeed be said that form is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense and feeling is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense, form being one thing, feeling another, and that the person is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense and form is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense, and yet that it should not be said that form is one thing, the person another — is wrong. But if it should not be said that form is one thing, the person another, then indeed, sir, it should not be said that form is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense and feeling is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense, form being one thing, feeling another, and that the person is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense and form is apprehended in the real and ultimate sense.
