S. Is there guidance by others (paravitāraṇā) for the Arahant (arahant)?
P. Yes.
S. But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, I say that the destruction (khaya) of the taints (āsava) is for one who knows, for one who sees; not for one who does not know, not for one who does not see. And for one knowing what, bhikkhus, for one seeing what, does the destruction of the taints come about? For one who knows, who sees, 'This is suffering (dukkha),' bhikkhus, the destruction of the taints comes about; 'This is the origin (samudaya) of suffering' … 'This is the cessation (nirodha) of suffering' … for one who knows, who sees, 'This is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering (dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadā),' the destruction of the taints comes about. It is for one who knows thus, bhikkhus, for one who sees thus, that the destruction of the taints comes about"¹ — is there indeed such a discourse (suttanta)?
P. Yes.
S. Then indeed it should not be said that there is guidance by others for the Arahant.
