[1161] For whomever, wherever, verbal formation (vacīsaṅkhāra) ceases — will mental formation (cittasaṅkhāra) cease for that one there?
At the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of the final mind (pacchimacitta) accompanied by thought-conception (vitakka) and discursive thought (vicāra), verbal formation ceases for them there, but mental formation will not cease for them there. For the others, at the moment of dissolution of thought-conception and discursive thought, verbal formation ceases for them there and mental formation will cease.
Or, for whomever, wherever, mental formation will cease — does verbal formation cease for that one there?
For all, at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of mind (citta), [and] at the moment of dissolution of a mind devoid of thought-conception and discursive thought, mental formation will cease for them there, but verbal formation does not cease for them there. At the moment of dissolution of thought-conception and discursive thought, mental formation will cease for them there and verbal formation ceases.
