[1381] Whoever abandons the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) from any place, does that person abandon the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya) from that place?
Yes (āmantā).
Or rather, whoever abandons the latent tendency of ignorance from any place, does that person abandon the latent tendency of lust for existence from that place?
One endowed with the highest path (aggamaggasamaṅgī), in regard to the three feelings (vedanā) in the sense-sphere element (kāmadhātu): he abandons the latent tendency of ignorance from that place, but he does not abandon the latent tendency of lust for existence from that place. That very same person (puggala), in regard to the form element (rūpadhātu) and the formless element (arūpadhātu): he abandons both the latent tendency of ignorance and the latent tendency of lust for existence from that place.
