[1524] By whomever and wherever the latent tendency of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya) and the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya) have been abandoned, has the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya) been abandoned by him there?
There is none.
Or rather, by whomever and wherever the latent tendency of conceit has been abandoned, have the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion been abandoned by him there?
In the case of the Arahant: in the form element (rūpadhātu) and the formless element (arūpadhātu), the latent tendency of conceit has been abandoned by him there; the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion should not be said to be either abandoned or not abandoned. For that same person, in the two feelings (vedanā) in the sense-sphere element (kāmadhātu), the latent tendency of conceit and the latent tendency of sensual lust have been abandoned by him there; the latent tendency of repulsion should not be said to be either abandoned or not abandoned.
By whomever and wherever the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion have been abandoned, has the latent tendency of views (diṭṭhānusaya) … the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya) been abandoned by him there?
There is none.
Or rather, by whomever and wherever the latent tendency of doubt has been abandoned, have the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion been abandoned by him there?
In the case of two persons: in the form element and the formless element, the latent tendency of doubt has been abandoned by them there; the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion should not be said to be either abandoned or not abandoned. For those same persons, in the two feelings in the sense-sphere element, the latent tendency of doubt has been abandoned by them there, but the latent tendency of sensual lust has not been abandoned by them there; the latent tendency of repulsion should not be said to be either abandoned or not abandoned. For those same persons, in painful feeling (dukkhā vedanā), the latent tendency of doubt has been abandoned by them there, but the latent tendency of repulsion has not been abandoned by them there; the latent tendency of sensual lust should not be said to be either abandoned or not abandoned. In the case of two persons: in the form element and the formless element, the latent tendency of doubt has been abandoned by them there; the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion should not be said to be either abandoned or not abandoned. They should not be said to be either abandoned or not abandoned.
By whomever and wherever the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion have been abandoned, has the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya) been abandoned by him there?
There is none.
Or rather, by whomever and wherever the latent tendency of ignorance has been abandoned, have the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion been abandoned by him there?
In the case of the Arahant: in the form element and the formless element, the latent tendency of ignorance has been abandoned by him there; the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion should not be said to be either abandoned or not abandoned.
