[435] For whomever in whatever plane the eye base (cakkhāyatana) does not arise, has the mind base (manāyatana) never arisen for that one in that plane?
For those who, in passing away from the five-constituent plane (pañcavokāra), are being reborn eyeless into the sense-sphere plane (kāmāvacara), and for formless beings (arūpa): the eye base does not arise for them in that plane, but it is not the case that the mind base has never arisen for them in that plane. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the Pure Abodes (Suddhāvāsa) and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta): the eye base does not arise and the mind base has never arisen for them in that plane.
Or else, for whomever in whatever plane the mind base has never arisen, does the eye base not arise for that one in that plane?
For those being reborn into the Pure Abodes: the mind base has never arisen for them in that plane, but it is not the case that the eye base does not arise for them in that plane. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the Pure Abodes and for non-percipient beings: the mind base has never arisen and the eye base does not arise for them in that plane.
