[440] For whomever in whichever [plane] the form base (rūpāyatana) does not arise, did the mind base (manāyatana) not arise for that one in that [plane]?
For those passing away from the five-constituent [plane] (pañcavokāra) and for the formless beings (arūpa), the form base does not arise for them in that [plane], but it is not the case that the mind base did not arise for them in that [plane]. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the Pure Abodes (Suddhāvāsa) and for those passing away from the non-percipient beings (asaññasatta), for them in that [plane] the form base does not arise, and the mind base did not arise.
Or, for whomever in whichever [plane] the mind base did not arise, does the form base not arise for that one in that [plane]?
For those being reborn into the Pure Abodes and for those being reborn among the non-percipient beings, the mind base did not arise for them in that [plane], but it is not the case that the form base does not arise for them in that [plane]. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the Pure Abodes and for those passing away from the non-percipient beings, for them in that [plane] the mind base did not arise, and the form base does not arise.
