[614] For whomever the eye base (cakkhāyatana) ceases, will the ear base (sotāyatana) cease for that one?
For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), and for those who, having arisen in the immaterial realm (arūpa), will attain final Nibbāna — as these are passing away, their eye base ceases, but their ear base will not cease. For the others possessing the eye, as they are passing away, their eye base ceases and their ear base will cease.
Or rather, for whomever the ear base will cease, does the eye base cease for that one?
For all who are arising, and for those without the eye who are passing away, their ear base will cease, but their eye base does not cease. For those possessing the eye, as they are passing away, their ear base will cease and their eye base ceases.
