[683] For whomever, wherever, the nose base (ghānāyatana) has never ceased, will the mental-object base (dhammāyatana) not cease for that one there?
For those of the form sphere (rūpāvacara) and of the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), the nose base has never ceased for them there, but it is not the case that the mental-object base will not cease for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the form sphere or the formless sphere, for them there both the nose base has never ceased and the mental-object base will not cease.
Or else, for whomever, wherever, the mental-object base will not cease, has the nose base never ceased for that one there?
For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), the mental-object base will not cease for them there, but it is not the case that the nose base has never ceased for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the form sphere or the formless sphere, for them there both the mental-object base will not cease and the nose base has never ceased.
