[694] For whomever the eye base (cakkhāyatana) does not arise, does the nose base (ghānāyatana) not cease for that one?
For those with a nose who are passing away, the eye base does not arise, but it is not the case that the nose base does not cease for them. For those without an eye who are being reborn and for those without a nose who are passing away, the eye base does not arise and the nose base does not cease.
Or rather, for whomever the nose base does not cease, does the eye base not arise for that one?
For those with an eye who are being reborn, the nose base does not cease, but it is not the case that the eye base does not arise for them. For those without a nose who are passing away and for those without an eye who are being reborn, the nose base does not cease and the eye base does not arise.
