[696] "For whomever the eye base (cakkhāyatana) does not arise, does the mind base (manāyatana) not cease for that one?"
For those possessed of mind (sacittaka) who are passing away, the eye base does not arise, but it is not the case that the mind base does not cease for them. For those without eye (acakkhuka) who are being reborn and for those without mind (acittaka) who are passing away, the eye base does not arise and the mind base does not cease.
"Or rather, for whomever the mind base does not cease, does the eye base not arise for that one?"
For those possessed of eye (sacakkhuka) who are being reborn, the mind base does not cease, but it is not the case that the eye base does not arise for them. For those without mind who are passing away and for those without eye who are being reborn, the mind base does not cease and the eye base does not arise.
