[777] For whomever, wherever, the eye base (cakkhāyatana) does not arise, will the nose base (ghānāyatana) not cease for that one there?
For those passing away from the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), and for those without eyes who are being reborn into the sense sphere, for them there the eye base does not arise, but it is not the case that the nose base will not cease for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere, for those passing away from the form sphere (rūpāvacara), for the non-percipient beings (asaññasattā), and for the formless beings (arūpā), for them there the eye base does not arise and the nose base will not cease.
Or, for whomever, wherever, the nose base will not cease, does the eye base not arise for that one there?
For those being reborn into the form sphere, for them there the nose base will not cease, but it is not the case that the eye base does not arise for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere, for those passing away from the form sphere, for the non-percipient beings, and for the formless beings, for them there the nose base will not cease and the eye base does not arise.
