[1163] For whom the nose faculty (ghānindriya) does not arise, will the faith faculty (saddhindriya) … the wisdom faculty (paññindriya), the mind faculty (manindriya) not arise for him?
For all who are passing away (cavanta) and for those without the nose (aghānaka) who are being reborn (upapajjanta) — for them the nose faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that for them the mind faculty will not arise. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbanta) in the sense sphere (kāmāvacara) and for those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) in the form sphere (rūpāvacara) and the formless sphere (arūpāvacara) — for them the nose faculty does not arise, and the mind faculty will not arise.
Or rather, for whom the mind faculty will not arise, does the nose faculty not arise for him?
For those in their final existence who are being reborn in the sense sphere — for them the mind faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that for them the nose faculty does not arise. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere and for those in their final existence in the form sphere and the formless sphere — for them the mind faculty will not arise, and the nose faculty does not arise.
