[1174] For whomever the life faculty (jīvitindriya) does not arise, will the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) not arise for him?
For all who are passing away, and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of the dissolution of the mind (citta), the life faculty does not arise for them; but it is not the case that the equanimity faculty will not arise for them. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind (pacchima-citta), and at the moment of the dissolution of the mind immediately after which the final mind associated with joy (somanassa) will arise — for them the life faculty does not arise and the equanimity faculty will not arise.
Or rather, for whomever the equanimity faculty will not arise, does the life faculty not arise for him?
At the moment of the arising of the final mind, and at the moment of the arising of the mind immediately after which the final mind associated with joy will arise — for them the equanimity faculty will not arise; but it is not the case that the life faculty does not arise for them. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind, and at the moment of the dissolution of the mind immediately after which the final mind associated with joy will arise — for them the equanimity faculty will not arise and the life faculty does not arise.
