[1213] For whomever, wherever, the life faculty (jīvitindriya) does not arise, will the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) not arise for that one there?
For those passing away from the four-constituent (catuvokāra) and the five-constituent (pañcavokāra) [planes], and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of the dissolution of mind (citta): for them there the life faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that the equanimity faculty will not arise for them there. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind (pacchimacitta), and at the moment of the dissolution of a mind immediately after which the final mind associated with joy (somanassa) will arise, and for those passing away from the non-percipient beings (asaññasatta): for them there both the life faculty does not arise and the equanimity faculty will not arise.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the equanimity faculty will not arise, does the life faculty not arise for that one there?
At the moment of the arising of the final mind, and at the moment of the arising of a mind immediately after which the final mind associated with joy will arise, and for those being reborn among the non-percipient beings: for them there the equanimity faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that the life faculty does not arise for them there. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind, and at the moment of the dissolution of a mind immediately after which the final mind associated with joy will arise, and for those passing away from the non-percipient beings: for them there both the equanimity faculty will not arise and the life faculty does not arise.
