[291] "For whom wholesome phenomena (dhammā) do not arise, do unwholesome phenomena not cease for that one?"
At the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of unwholesome phenomena, wholesome phenomena do not arise for them, but it is not the case that unwholesome phenomena do not cease for them. At the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind (citta) dissociated (vippayutta) from the wholesome, at the moment of dissolution of a mind dissociated from the unwholesome, for those attained to cessation (nirodha-samāpanna), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta): for these, wholesome phenomena do not arise and unwholesome phenomena do not cease.
"Or rather, for whom unwholesome phenomena do not cease, do wholesome phenomena not arise for that one?"
At the moment of arising of wholesome phenomena, unwholesome phenomena do not cease for them, but it is not the case that wholesome phenomena do not arise for them. At the moment of dissolution of a mind dissociated from the unwholesome, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from the wholesome, for those attained to cessation, and for non-percipient beings: for these, unwholesome phenomena do not cease and wholesome phenomena do not arise.
