[643] For whomever the joy faculty (somanassindriya) does not arise, does the mind faculty (manindriya) not arise for that one?
For those possessed of mind (sacittaka) who are being reborn apart from joy, and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind (citta) dissociated from joy — for them the joy faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that the mind faculty does not arise for them. For all [beings] at the moment of the dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of mind, for those who have attained cessation (nirodhasamāpanna), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta) — for them the joy faculty does not arise, and the mind faculty does not arise.
Or, for whomever the mind faculty does not arise, does the joy faculty not arise for that one?
