[648] "For whomever the faith faculty (saddhindriya) does not arise, does the mind faculty (manindriya) not arise for that one?"
For the rootless (ahetuka) [beings] possessed of mind (sacittaka) who are being reborn (upapajjanta), and, in the course of existence (pavatta), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind (citta) dissociated (vippayutta) from faith (saddhā): for these the faith faculty does not arise, yet it is not the case that for them the mind faculty does not arise. For all [beings] at the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of mind, for those attained to cessation (nirodhasamāpanna), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta): for these the faith faculty does not arise and the mind faculty does not arise.
"Or rather, for whomever the mind faculty does not arise, does the faith faculty not arise for that one?" — Yes (āmantā).
