[132] A phenomenon (dhamma) with thought and examination (savitakka-savicāra) is a condition (paccaya) for a phenomenon with thought and examination and for a phenomenon without thought, with examination only (avitakka-vicāramatta), by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya).
Having given a gift (dāna), having undertaken virtue (sīla), having performed the uposatha observance (uposatha-kamma), one reviews (paccavekkhati) it; with that as object (ārabbha), aggregates (khandhā) with thought and examination, and thought (vitakka), arise. One reviews what was formerly well practiced. Having emerged from a jhāna with thought and examination … from the path (magga) … from fruition (phala) … one reviews the fruition; with that as object, aggregates with thought and examination, and thought, arise.
Noble ones (ariyā) review the defilements (kilesā) that have been abandoned (pahīna); they review the defilements that have been suppressed (vikkhambhita); they know the defilements formerly indulged in (samudāciṇṇa). One sees with insight (vipassati) the aggregates with thought and examination as impermanent (anicca), as suffering (dukkha), as not-self (anattā); one relishes (assādeti) and delights in (abhinandati) them; with that as object, aggregates with thought and examination, and thought, arise.
