[155] A phenomenon (dhamma) accompanied by thought-conception and discursive thought (savitakka-savicāra) is a condition, by predominance condition (adhipati-paccaya), for a phenomenon accompanied by thought-conception and discursive thought and for a phenomenon without thought-conception, with only discursive thought (avitakka-vicāramatta): object-predominance (ārammaṇādhipati), conascence-predominance (sahajātādhipati).
Object-predominance: Having given a gift (dāna), having undertaken virtue (sīla), having performed the uposatha observance (uposatha-kamma), one reviews it, esteeming it; having esteemed it, aggregates (khandhā) accompanied by thought-conception and discursive thought, and thought-conception (vitakka), arise. One reviews, esteeming them, [deeds] formerly well practised. Having emerged from a jhāna accompanied by thought-conception and discursive thought … from the path (magga) … from the fruition (phala) … one reviews the fruition, esteeming it; having esteemed it, aggregates accompanied by thought-conception and discursive thought, and thought-conception, arise. Esteeming them, one relishes and delights in aggregates accompanied by thought-conception and discursive thought; having esteemed them, aggregates accompanied by thought-conception and discursive thought, and thought-conception, arise.
Conascence-predominance: The predominant [dhamma] accompanied by thought-conception and discursive thought is a condition, by predominance condition, for the associated (sampayuttaka) aggregates and for thought-conception.
