[176] A phenomenon (dhamma) with thought-conception and discursive thought (savitakka-savicāra) is a condition, by way of immediacy condition (anantara-paccaya), for a phenomenon without thought-conception and with only discursive thought (avitakka-vicāramatta) and for a phenomenon without thought-conception and without discursive thought (avitakka-avicāra).
A death consciousness (cuti-citta) with thought-conception and discursive thought is a condition, by way of immediacy condition, for a rebirth consciousness (upapatti-citta) without thought-conception and with only discursive thought, and for discursive thought (vicāra).
Aggregates (khandhā) with thought-conception and discursive thought are a condition, by way of immediacy condition, for emergence (vuṭṭhāna) without thought-conception and with only discursive thought, and for discursive thought.
The preparation (parikamma) for a jhāna without thought-conception and with only discursive thought is a condition, by way of immediacy condition, for the jhāna without thought-conception and with only discursive thought, and for discursive thought.
Change-of-lineage (gotrabhū) [is a condition] for the path without thought-conception and with only discursive thought and for discursive thought; cleansing (vodāna) [is a condition] for the path without thought-conception and with only discursive thought and for discursive thought; conformity (anuloma) is a condition, by way of immediacy condition, for the attainment of fruition (phala-samāpatti) without thought-conception and with only discursive thought and for discursive thought.
