[183] A phenomenon (dhamma) without thought-conception (vitakka) and without discursive thought (vicāra) is a condition for a phenomenon without thought-conception and without discursive thought by immediacy condition (anantara-paccaya): Each preceding discursive thought is a condition for each succeeding discursive thought by immediacy condition. … The preceding aggregates (khandhā) without thought-conception and without discursive thought are a condition for the succeeding aggregates without thought-conception and without discursive thought by immediacy condition. The path (magga) without thought-conception and without discursive thought is a condition for the fruition (phala) without thought-conception and without discursive thought, and the fruition without thought-conception and without discursive thought is a condition for the fruition without thought-conception and without discursive thought, by immediacy condition. For one emerging from cessation (nirodha), the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana) is a condition for the attainment of fruition (phala-samāpatti) that is without thought-conception and without discursive thought, and for discursive thought, by immediacy condition.
