[273] A phenomenon (dhamma) with thought-conception and discursive thought (savitakka-savicāra) is a condition, by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya), for a phenomenon with thought-conception and discursive thought: object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive-support: Depending on faith (saddhā) with thought-conception and discursive thought, one gives a gift (dāna), undertakes virtue (sīla), performs the uposatha observance (uposatha-kamma), arouses jhāna with thought-conception and discursive thought, arouses insight (vipassanā), the path (magga) … arouses the attainment (samāpatti), conceives conceit (māna), grasps a view (diṭṭhi).
Depending on virtue with thought-conception and discursive thought … learning (suta), generosity (cāga), wisdom (paññā), lust (rāga), hatred (dosa), delusion (moha), conceit, view … aspiration (patthanā), one gives a gift, undertakes virtue, performs the uposatha observance, arouses jhāna with thought-conception and discursive thought, arouses insight, the path … the attainment …; one kills a living being, causes a schism in the Saṅgha.
