[296] A phenomenon (dhamma) with thought and examination (savitakka-savicāra) and a phenomenon without thought and with examination only (avitakka-vicāramatta) are a condition for a phenomenon without thought and with examination only and for a phenomenon without thought and without examination (avitakka-avicāra) by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya).
[This is] proximity decisive support (anantarūpanissaya) and natural decisive support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive support: faith (saddhā) that is with thought and examination … virtue (sīla), learning (suta), generosity (cāga), wisdom (paññā) … aspiration (patthanā) … and thought (vitakka) are a condition for faith that is without thought and with examination only, for virtue, learning, generosity, and wisdom, and for examination (vicāra), by decisive-support condition.
