[38] Dependent on a phenomenon with thought and examination (savitakka-savicāra dhamma) and a phenomenon without thought and without examination (avitakka-avicāra dhamma), a phenomenon with thought and examination and a phenomenon without thought and without examination … At the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhikkhaṇa), dependent on one aggregate (khandha) with thought and examination and the base (vatthu), three aggregates [arise]; dependent on two aggregates and the base, two aggregates [arise]; dependent on the aggregates with thought and examination and the great essentials (mahābhūta), kammically produced matter (kaṭattārūpa) [arises]. The aggregates [arise] dependent on the base by dissociation condition (vippayutta-paccaya); kammically produced matter [arises] dependent on the aggregates by dissociation condition. Dependent on a phenomenon with thought and examination and a phenomenon without thought and without examination, a phenomenon without thought, with examination only (avitakka-vicāramatta dhamma), and a phenomenon without thought and without examination … At the moment of rebirth-linking, dependent on the aggregates with thought and examination and the base, thought (vitakka) [arises]; dependent on the aggregates with thought and examination and the great essentials, kammically produced matter [arises]. Thought [arises] dependent on the base by dissociation condition; kammically produced matter [arises] dependent on the aggregates by dissociation condition. Dependent on a phenomenon with thought and examination and a phenomenon without thought and without examination, a phenomenon with thought and examination and a phenomenon without thought, with examination only … At the moment of rebirth-linking, dependent on one aggregate with thought and examination and the base, three aggregates and thought [arise]; dependent on two aggregates and the base, two aggregates and thought [arise]; [they arise] dependent on the base by dissociation condition.
