[55] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) that is without thought and without examination (avitakka-avicāra), there arise phenomena that are without thought but with examination only (avitakka-vicāramatta) and that are without thought and without examination — by not-root condition (na-hetupaccaya):
At the moment of rootless rebirth-linking (ahetuka-paṭisandhi), dependent on the base (vatthu), thought (vitakka) [arises]; dependent on the primary elements (mahābhūta), kamma-born form (kaṭattārūpa) [arises].
Dependent on a phenomenon that is without thought and without examination, there arise phenomena that are with thought and with examination (savitakka-savicāra) and that are without thought but with examination only — by not-root condition:
At the moment of rootless rebirth-linking, dependent on the base, the aggregates that are with thought and with examination, and thought, [arise].
