[86] Dependent on a phenomenon without thought-conception and without discursive thought (avitakka-avicāra dhamma), a phenomenon without thought-conception and without discursive thought arises, not by kamma condition (na-kammapaccayā): dependent on the aggregates (khandha) without thought-conception and without discursive thought, volition (cetanā) without thought-conception and without discursive thought [arises]; external [matter] … [matter] originated by nutriment … [matter] originated by temperature — dependent on one primary element (mahābhūta).
Dependent on a phenomenon without thought-conception and without discursive thought, a phenomenon without thought-conception but with mere discursive thought (avitakka-vicāramatta dhamma) arises, not by kamma condition: dependent on discursive thought (vicāra), volition without thought-conception but with mere discursive thought [arises].
