[466] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is both clinging (upādāna) and associated with clinging is a condition, by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is both clinging and associated with clinging:
Taking clingings as object, clingings arise.
The root should be asked.
Taking clingings as object, aggregates (khandhā) that are associated with clinging but are not clinging arise.
The root should be asked.
Taking clingings as object, clingings and the associated aggregates arise.
A phenomenon that is associated with clinging but is not clinging is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon that is associated with clinging but is not clinging:
Taking as object aggregates that are associated with clinging but are not clinging, aggregates that are associated with clinging but are not clinging arise. All three should be done.
In the combination (ghaṭana), all three should be done.
