[254] Bhikkhus, if it so wishes, the Saṅgha may carry out an act of suspension (ukkhepanīyakamma) for not making amends for an offense (āpatti) against three kinds of bhikkhus: one is a maker of strife, a maker of quarrels, a maker of disputes, a maker of contention, a maker of legal issues (adhikaraṇa) in the Saṅgha; one is foolish, incompetent, full of offenses, of unbounded conduct; one dwells in company with householders, in unbecoming association with householders. Against these three kinds of bhikkhus, bhikkhus, the Saṅgha, if it so wishes, may carry out an act of suspension for not making amends for an offense.
