Paccanīyapaṭṭhāna

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (2) · Vol. 41 · Section 135

[135] A phenomenon (dhamma) without applied thought (vitakka) but with sustained thought (vicāra) only is a condition, by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon without applied thought and without sustained thought. By the knowledge of penetration of the minds of others (cetopariyañāṇa) one knows the mind (citta) of one endowed with a mind without applied thought but with sustained thought only. Aggregates (khandhā) without applied thought but with sustained thought only are a condition, by object condition, for the knowledge of penetration of the minds of others, for the knowledge of reminiscence of past lives (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of beings faring according to their kamma (yathākammūpaga-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa). Taking as object both aggregates without applied thought but with sustained thought only and applied thought, aggregates without applied thought and without sustained thought arise.
